The Board of Directors of American Community Mutual Insurance Company named Arthur O. Dummer, Chairman of The Board, and Michael E. Tobin as the company's new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Also, John C. Colpean was elected to the position of Board Member.
Dummer was elected as Chairman after serving more than six years as Board Member. Currently, he is the President of The Donner Company in Utah. With an insurance background spanning four decades, he is also a Director of American National Insurance Company of Galveston, Texas, and Executive Director of The Utah Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Association. Dummer's professional affiliations include a membership in the American Academy of Actuaries and Fellowships in the Society of Actuaries and the Conference of Actuaries in Public Practice.
Tobin began his relationship with American Community more than three years ago when he was appointed to The Board, while serving as a consultant and attorney in the healthcare industry. He has held executive positions for various Blue Cross Blue Shield plans. Tobin obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame and a Juris Doctor from the Loyola University of Chicago.
"After serving on The Board for several years, I have seen first-hand the commitment of the American Community staff," said Tobin. "I look forward to working closely with them and our affiliated agents to further enhance American Community's position in the marketplace."
Colpean began his relationship with American Community as a consultant in 2000 and brings a wealth of knowledge to his Board Member position. He served as legal counsel to the Michigan Legislature for over 9 years. After entering private practice in 1988, he concentrated on matters pertaining to insurance regulation, transactions and litigation. Colpean currently serves as counsel to the Michigan Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Association. He also has served on the Insurance Law Committee of the State Bar of Michigan.
Colpean gained his Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University and his Juris Doctor from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
