The Hollywood Reporter and the Game Developers Conference announced today that Clive Barker, renowned horror film writer and director, and Thomas Tull, Chairman and CEO of Legendary Pictures, will keynote the second annual Hollywood and Games Summit (http://www.hollywoodandgames.com). This must-attend event, presented by the Game Developers Conference and The Hollywood Reporter, will take place at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel on June 26-27, 2007, and will unite industry leaders to address the accelerating collaboration between film and interactive entertainment.
The keynote presentations will give attendees a comprehensive, 360-degree perspective on the entertainment and game industries. Clive Barker will provide unique insight into the artistic process he uses to create an interactive parallel universe, while Thomas Tull will discuss his content strategies for film and games, and emphasize his innovative strategies for providing smart financial opportunities that leverage both industries. In addition, Tull will provide details of his latest venture, the videogame company, Brash Entertainment. Barker will open the Hollywood and Games Summit with his keynote on June 26, and Tull will address attendees on June 27.
Barker, best known as the innovative writer and director of Hellraiser and as the Executive Producer of Gods and Monsters, is celebrated for his ability to draw audiences into his moody, atmospheric world through his writing, films, comic books and art. Barker has worked as a playwright, actor and director, and came to prominence in 1987 with the cult hit Hellraiser, adapted from his novella The Hellbound Heart. He has experimented with various genres, including fantasy, with Weaveworld in 1987; film noir, with Lord of Illusions in 1995; and videogames, with "The Undying" in 2001. He is currently developing the supernatural horror videogame Jericho, which is scheduled for release this fall.
Tull, Chairman and CEO of Legendary Pictures, has his finger on the pulse of smart investments, and recently entered into a five-year, 25-picture deal with Warner Bros. Pictures. Under his leadership, Legendary Pictures was given the prestigious "Deal of the Year" award in 2005 by IDD Magazine. With smash hits including Batman Begins, Superman Returns, We Are Marshall and 300, Tull proves to be at the forefront of the industry. Tull's upcoming projects include Trick 'R Treat, Where The Wild Things Are and The Dark Knight, the highly anticipated follow-up to Batman Begins.
"Clive Barker and Thomas Tull exemplify the importance of talent and managing talent in this collaborative nexus between film and games," said Jamil Moledina, Executive Director of the Game Developers Conference. "With Barker sharing insider details on the ways he builds suspense through various entertainment mediums including games -- coupled with Tull's exposé of his success criteria for securing the right creative talent in both film and games -- the audience will see both sides of the equation for deriving artistic and financial success."
"We are thrilled to have Thomas Tull and Clive Barker as our keynote speakers this year," said Paula Parisi, VP and Executive Editor, The Hollywood Reporter. "Their distinctive creative vision and experience with a variety of media forms serves as a key asset to both industries. We're looking forward to an event that is focused on an exchange of ideas and increased cooperation between filmmakers and videogame creators."
The Hollywood and Games Summit unites Hollywood studio and videogame executives to exchange ideas in an entertainment-specific forum. The summit will also allow leaders from the respective industries to interact and discuss best practices for strategically marketing original intellectual property. This two-day event will include focused sessions, an exhibit floor, and a networking reception.
