SHREVEPORT, La., January 23, 2004-- Poetry is often born from the darkest depths of the night, from the hollow yearning in the soul and from the moments when words seem insufficient to transform feelings. Author Jason Lammons breathes poetry. He exhales words in the shape of emotions and piercing thoughts in his new book, My Sanctuary (now available through 1stBooks, amazon, booksamillion, barnesandknoble, borders, half.com, campustextbooks.com)and several other online retailers.
My Sanctuary is Dedicated to Lammons' brother, Daniel Jonathan Lammons (R.I.P.), who passed away in 2002. His poems are a vast landscape where emotions frolic and fester. He molds his feelings like clay, rendering them into pieces of human experience tattooed onto white paper.
The words in this book paint pictures of places seen and emotions felt. There are no holds barred, Lammons has opened the door and asked readers to step inside, into his world. My Sanctuary is poetry flowing from heart and soul, confronting loss and death, love, lost love, pain, joy, awareness and deep spiritual experiences.
For example, in his poem "America's Halo," he addresses the trials of modern American society.
"You've ripped the wings off of butterflies/ spilled the youth out of children's eyes/ cut the rope that we wanted to climb/ but your demon stare doesn't scare me/ In paradise you lit a fire/ called it hell, they believed you/ for a while."
Lammons began writing short stories, poems and songs when he was 13. My Sanctuary is his first book. He is also coeditor of the poetryzine, North of New Orleans. For more information, visit, www.redriverink.com .
