In Richmond, Newest Corporate Benefit Isn’t Monetary, It’s a Massage and Manicure from mobileSPA

Workers tired of long commutes, long hours and long months between vacations should take heart. Relief is on the way! Not in the form of 401(k) plans and financial perks, but as facials, massages and other “spa” treatments once reserved for the elite of Europe and America.

The newest health benefit available to Richmond-area companies is with “on-call day spa” courtesy of mobileSPA, which brings European spa services to the offices of overworked and overwrought employees. Founded in 2002 by Devika Mukherjee, Boston-based mobileSPA (www.mobilespa.com.) recently entered the Richmond market as part of its expansion throughout the U.S. and Canada.

“The real estate market here is taking off, bringing in professionals with hectic schedules,” says Carletta Pittman Wilson, mobileSPA’s Richmond distributor. “These people work hard, but they’re also determined to look good and find new ways to relax. We not only help them look and feel good, we rejuvenate their minds so they can be more productive.”

mobileSPA brings everything from massage table and masseuse to manicurist and aromatherapy candles to the client’s workplace – acting as a sort of spa “catering service.” The company also uses a variety of health-care products and diagnostic equipment, so clients can address their skin care and body care needs. For example, mobileSPA Skin Care Consultants teach clients how to care for their skin in less than five minutes, offering instructions on product application and priorities.

“People with a Puritan work ethic may think spa treatments are an unnecessary perk,” says Ms. Mukherjee, “but in today’s stressful, fast-paced workplace, it’s a necessity. Americans often forget what psychologists tell us: you must take care of yourself before you can take care of others. And that means everyone – from harried executives to stay-at-home moms.”

In addition to office spa sessions, mobileSPA provides spa parties in private homes and catering facilities for occasions such as bachelorette parties, bridal showers, barbecues or birthdays – or for no occasion at all, other than a client’s desire for a relaxing massage.
